I created this polyhedra sculpture with a memory of a Morracan Star lamp that I once almost bought at a bazar in Cairo, Egypt. It is one of those things that letter on you wished that you had purchased, especially knowing that you could bargain the price down to a lot less that you could find it anywhere. The Morracan Star is a great stellated dodecahedra that I enlarged to the size that I wanted. I designed the cut outs to look like stained glass. I made the "stained glass" by using iridescent glass paint on plastic transparency sheets. I spray painted the separate model pieces to give the structure more stability, inserted the stained glass pieces and assembled the star. I realized that I wanted the star suspended from a Compound Two Different Asymmetric Pyramids. I knew that the structure would not be stable, so I weighted down the flat bottom part with heavy washers after assembly. I first attempted to secure them together with cellophane tape, but was more successful with a low temp glue gun. I left an opening in the star to insert flameless candles in order to illuminate the sculpture from within.
